Epstein survivors sue Google for exposing identities, fueling harassment
text_fieldsWashington: Jeffrey Epstein survivors have sued Google in US federal court, accusing its search engine and AI tools of broadcasting their names, emails, and phone numbers—despite removal pleas—triggering harassment, threats, and fresh trauma according to CNBC.
Jane Doe filed on behalf of dozens, blaming a 2025-2026 US Justice Department document dump that accidentally outed almost 100 victims. Though retracted, the data proliferated online, with Google allegedly amplifying it via search results and AI summaries even after alerts.
“Strangers call them, email them, threaten their physical safety, and accuse them of conspiring with Epstein when they are, in reality, Epstein’s victims,” the complaint states, despite victims' efforts to stay hidden.
The suit spotlights AI's unchecked spread of sensitive info from crime-victim records, demanding prevention of further leaks and accountability. Experts say a win could reshape how tech giants manage privacy in high-stakes cases.
