A bomb blast in Afghanistan's western Herat province killed seven civilians, including four women, and injured nine others, according to an official.

In the evening of Saturday, a bomb exploded in the city of Herat, killing seven people and wounding nine others.

In Police District 12, a Shia-dominated area of the city, 640 km west of Kabul, an improvised bomb planted in a minibus exploded, according to local residents.

The blast destroyed the vehicle and left some of the wounded in critical condition. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack to date.

Islamic State affiliates in Afghanistan are opposed to the Taliban-led administration and have claimed responsibility for a number of bombings in recent months.
