Texas: A day after the deadly shooting at a primary school in Uvalde, Texas, police arrested another student with firearms outside a high school in Richardson here, reports say.

It appears police have averted the worst by arresting the student, which comes after an 18-year-old shot dead 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde.

The suspect was reportedly walking towards a school in Richardson with what appeared to be a rifle.

The Richardson police department said in a press release that they received a tip off saying a male holding what appeared to be a rifle, heading towards Berkner High School.

Police officers from various units quickly responded to the school, starting probe before long identifying a juvenile student of Berkner High School. However, no weapons were initially recovered from the student.

A search in the vehicle used by the suspect revealed what appeared to be an AK-47 style pistol and a replica AR-15 style Orbeez rifle.

Police withheld details about the juvenile over his age, but said he was charged with Unlawful Carrying Weapons.

The repeat of mass shootings raised questions against the constitutionally protected lax gun regulation in the US, which allows young people below 21 years of age to buy automatic weapons.

The growing protest worldwide against the incident was best expressed when Catherine Russell, the head of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) asked yesterday: how many more children will die before leaders act?

Despite the stiff resistance to gun control, a growing number of Americans - 54 per cent to be exact as a survey finds - are demanding stricter laws against guns.
