Videoconferencing app Skype is getting a new upgrade that promises an "improved, quicker, more reliable, and incredibly modern-looking Skype" experience for users. "Skype is getting new features," Skype's owner Microsoft said in a blog post.

During a call, users will now see a call stage, which will display everyone on the main screen. The company has changed how video feeds are displayed into a grid, ensuring that no one is left alone on the upper tray.

According to the company, the users will be able to turn off the video stream and hide audio-only participants from the calling stage.

Aside from that, the video call app will have new chat headers with an improved design. There will also be group avatars and new button gradients.

Users can also communicate with anyone in any language on a landline or video call with the new Universal Translator.

Microsoft has also said that the platform has "improved the camera with Office Lens feature, allowing you to capture your memories, create videos or scan documents, whiteboards and business cards in the smartest way."

Microsoft has also released a new Meet Now service that allows users to create and join Skype calls without having to log in, create an account, or have the Skype app installed. Users can join a call as a guest and connect online with only a link.

"When you don't want to bother with annoying requirements like downloading an app, remembering a password, signing up for a new account or keeping your call under 45 minutes, all you need to do is have a quick call on Meet Now," the company said.
