Chinese authorities have introduced a novel approach to enhance road safety by installing lasers on highways aimed at preventing drivers from nodding off at the wheel.

A video depicting this innovative safety measure has gone viral on social media, garnering millions of views and reposts.

The video was shared by a user known as Science Girl, who captioned it as "Lasers being used to prevent drivers from falling asleep on a Chinese highway." She mentioned that the video was recorded on the Qingdao-Yinchuan Expressway and these laser lights are specifically designed to combat driver fatigue.

In the video, vibrant laser lights are shown flashing above the vehicles on the highway. Li, the driver who captured the video, reported that these laser lights were effective in quickly revitalising him and reducing exhaustion during an extended nighttime drive.

Since its posting, the video has amassed over 63 million views and 23,000 reposts on social media.

The public reaction to this unique approach has been mixed. While some people found it entertaining and innovative, others expressed concerns about its potential to cause disorientation and accidents on the road.
