AI can be misused, should be regulated: creator of ChatGPT Mira Murati

ChatGPT has become the most controversial AI tool since it was launched. The technology is being hailed for its revolutionary applications and blamed for putting people out of jobs at the same time.

Mira Murati, CTO at OpenAI - the company that developed ChatGPT and Dall-E, recently said that AI can be misused. Speaking to Time magazine, she said AI can be misused and used by bad actors. "So, then there are questions about how you govern the use of this technology globally. How do you govern the use of AI in a way that's aligned with human values?"

She also said it is not too late for different stakeholders to get involved and AI may need to be regulated. AI has been at the centre of many debates for a while now and ChatGPT's features have put them under the spotlight. Many are pointing out its potential implications including cybersecurity threats.

Murati asserted that it is important for OpenAI and other companies to bring technology into the public consciousness in a way that's controlled and responsible. She added that the company will need all the help it can get from everyone including the government and regulators.
