Additional security feature for WhatsApp; second OTP required to log in

WhatsApp plans to introduce a feature that adds an extra layer of security before allowing a user to log into a WhatsApp account. It is hoped that this feature will be released in beta versions of the instant messaging app for iOS and Android in the future.

After testing a feature that allows users to undo the deletion of messages, WhatsApp might soon start asking for a double verification code. This means that if you try to log in to WhatsApp on a new phone, you will need an additional verification code in addition to the first code sent via SMS, according to the Indian Express.

This feature is announced to prevent users' WhatsApp accounts from being stolen or hacked as it had happened before. Such scams usually happen when users share the OTP sent by WhatsApp with a bad actor and they can then use it to take over the WhatsApp account.

The aim of this new security feature is to protect people who unknowingly share tye 6-digit OTP. Once the feature is released, a second 6-digit code will be sent to the user's phone number after a time delay. A message with OTP will tell the user that their account is being logged into, which means that users will not share the second 6-digit code.
