IPL 2024 auction: 333 players in line with varied base prices

The IPL 2024 auctions, scheduled for December 19 in Dubai, will witness a total of 333 cricketers battling it out for contracts ahead of the 17th season of the tournament.

Among them, 214 are Indian players, while 119 hail from overseas, including two from associate nations. The pool comprises 116 capped players, 215 uncapped, and 2 from associate nations.

Notably, 77 slots are up for grabs, with 30 reserved for overseas talents. The auction will see a spectrum of base prices, with INR 2 crore being the highest, drawing interest from 23 players, followed by 13 players placing their base price at INR 1.5 crore.

The full list of players, along with their respective base prices, has been disclosed, readying the stage for what promises to be a fiercely competitive auction.

Meanwhile, one of the most significant moves in IPL history involves Hardik Pandya stepping in as captain for the Mumbai Indians, ending Rohit Sharma's 10-year stint at the helm. Under Rohit's leadership, the team secured a remarkable five IPL titles, marking an era of success for the franchise.

The decision to hand the captaincy to Pandya has triggered varied reactions among fans. While some embraced the change, others expressed disappointment over the shift.

Mumbai Indians previously acquired Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans in a significant all-cash trade deal. Additionally, Cameron Green was traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore in an all-cash transaction, adding to the pre-auction buzz.

Ahead of the auction, teams took crucial retention and release decisions. A total of 174 players were retained, whereas 81 players were released. Kolkata Knight Riders released the most players, while Royal Challengers Bangalore bolstered their auction purse by releasing key signings - Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood, and Harshal Patel.

As the teams gear up for the auction, Gujarat Titans hold the highest remaining purse, while Lucknow Super Giants have the smallest budget available for the event.

Each franchise's remaining purse post-retentions stands as follows: Gujarat Titans (Rs 38.15 crore), Sunrisers Hyderabad (Rs 34 crore), Kolkata Knight Riders (Rs 32.7 crore), Chennai Super Kings (Rs 31.4 crore), Punjab Kings (Rs 29.1 crore), Delhi Capitals (Rs 28.95 crore), Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rs 23.25 crore), Mumbai Indians (Rs 17.75 crore), Rajasthan Royals (Rs 14.5 crore), and Lucknow Super Giants (Rs 13.15 crore).
