Saudi, UAE condemn Israeli attack on Iranian consulate

Reports indicate that Israeli warplanes attacked the Iranian consulate in Damascus. The motive behind the airstrike is believed to be linked to the ongoing tensions between Israel and its regional adversaries, particularly Iran.
The strike resulted in the tragic loss of lives, with seven military advisers confirmed dead, including three senior commanders. Additionally, the infrastructure of the consulate sustained significant damage, further exacerbating the situation.
Saudi Arabia swiftly responded to the incident, expressing its strong condemnation of the attack on diplomatic premises.
In an official statement released early Tuesday, the Saudi foreign ministry emphasized the Kingdom's unequivocal rejection of targeting diplomatic facilities under any circumstances. The statement highlights the violation of international diplomatic laws and the principles of diplomatic immunity.
Saudi Arabia reiterated its stance on upholding diplomatic norms and highlighted the sanctity of diplomatic missions. The attack on the Iranian consulate was deemed a flagrant violation of diplomatic immunity, warranting swift condemnation and international action.
The UAE also released a statement, expressing condemnation of the attack.
Following the Israeli attack, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian urged the international community to take action.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) also echoed nations’ sentiments, emphasizing the importance of respecting international laws and treaties.
Jasem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, the Secretary-General of the GCC, condemned the attack on the Iranian consulate, reaffirming the council's commitment to upholding diplomatic immunities and international norms.
The GCC reiterated the necessity for all nations to adhere to established international laws, treaties and conventions. Such adherence fosters stability, peace and mutual respect among nations, preventing further escalation of conflicts.
