Saudi Arabia expresses solidarity with Qatar after Ras Laffan gas plant explosion

Saudi Arabia has expressed solidarity with Qatar following the explosion at the Barzan gas plant in Ras Laffan Industrial City that left 13 people dead, dozens injured and others missing.
In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
The ministry also expressed hope for the safe return of 18 people reported missing after the incident.
Qatari authorities said 13 people were killed and 66 others of different nationalities were injured when an explosion occurred at the Barzan facility, about 80 kilometres north of Doha, on Sunday.
Investigations are under way into what officials described as a technical malfunction that triggered the explosion.
QatarEnergy said the incident occurred during the start-up of operations at the plant and led to a fire that was fully extinguished by Monday.
The Barzan facility supplies gas to the domestic market and has a production capacity of approximately 1.4 billion standard cubic feet of sales gas per day.
Qatar’s Ministry of Interior said inspections conducted after the incident found no leaks that could pose a risk to public safety or the environment.
