Tehran: Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has issued a call to Muslim states, urging them to cease oil and food exports to Israel in response to the ongoing bombardment of the Gaza Strip. The demand comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Tehran-backed Hamas, the ruling authority in Gaza.

During a speech reported by Iranian state media, Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized the urgent need for an immediate halt to the bombings on Gaza. He stated, "The path of oil and food exports to the Zionist regime should be stopped," condemning Israel's actions and calling for solidarity among Muslim nations.

Israel, in turn, has vowed to eliminate Hamas, attributing the decision to a deadly attack on October 7 that claimed the lives of 1,400 people and involved the hostage-taking of hundreds. The Israeli response has included an unprecedented bombardment of Gaza and the imposition of a siege on the enclave. Palestinian authorities report a toll of over 8,000 casualties.

Iran's clerical rulers have consistently warned Israel of potential escalation if it fails to cease aggressions against Palestinians. There are indications that Tehran-backed proxies in the Middle East are prepared to take action in response to the ongoing conflict.
