Nipah: One more person tests positive in Kerala
text_fieldsKozhikode: One more person in Kerala’s Kozhikode tested positive for Nipah virus on Friday.
With this, the total number of Nipah cases has gone up to six.
State Health Minister Veena George's office said in a statement that the 39-year-old, who tested positive, had sought treatment at a private hospital where Nipah-positive affected had been treated for other ailments earlier.
According to the Health Minister, there have been two deaths since August 30, and there are four active cases currently.
The latest person to test positive for the deadly virus has been under observation in a hospital in Kozhikode and the three other confirmed cases are also undergoing treatment.
In a major relief, 11 samples collected from those in the contact list of other confirmed cases had tested negative on Thursday.
An 82-year-old woman who was admitted to Manjeri Medical College Hospital with Nipah-like symptoms has also tested negative for the virus.
On Thursday, the number of people under observation had risen to 950. Of these, 231 are in the high-risk category. 287 health workers are also there in the contact list.
Four people in high-risk categories are in a private hospital and 17 people are under surveillance in Kozhikode Medical College.
