LSG polls: early trends show both fronts in close race

Thiruvananthapuram: Initial results trickle in as the counting progresses across the state for the local body polls.

The major highlight at this hour is UDF is leading municipal corporations and municipalities, where LDF making leads in block and district panchayats.

Results show LDF winning 5 seats, while UDF bagging four and BJP leading in Shoranur municipality.

Results from counting desks at 244 centres are slowly emerging, with first results marking ruling LDF winning five seats in Varkala, Pala, Ottapalam and Bathery municipalities.

Obviously the results now available could take twists and turns before final position emerges later in the afternoon.

Opposition UDF can also remain hopeful as they have won four seats in municipalities including Paravur, Mukkam, Kottarakkara.

Early trends show both fronts are closing on each other. Meanwhile, Kerala Congress M made some gains in the Pala municipality.

Nobody could be unhappier in the early trends today than N Venugopal, UDF mayor candidate for Kochi Municipal Corporation, after losing by one vote.
