Covid cases surge in Kerala; 1758 test positive on Tuesday

Thiruvananthapuram: Number of persons infected with Coronavirus are climbing at an alarming rate in Kerala. 1758 people tested positive for the contagious disease on Tuesday. Of these 1641 people contracted the disease through local transmission. Source of infection of 81 cases are unknown. 39 people who came from foreign countries and 42 from other states also tested positive on Tuesday.

Thiruvananthapuram topped the list of districts with highest number of infectees with 489 cases. Malappuram district reported 242 cases. Ernakulam (192 cases), Kozhikode (147), Alappuzha (126), Kannur (123) are other districts which reported more than 100 cases.

Six deaths were confirmed as due to Covid on Tuesday taking the tally to 175.

25 health workers also contracted the disease on Tuesday.

On a positive note, 1365 people were declared recovered from the disease.

There are 1,65,564 people under observation across various districts in Kerala. Out of this, 1,51,931 are in home/institutional quarantine and 13,633 are in hospitals. 1583 people were newly admitted with Covid symptoms on Tuesday.

13 wards of various districts were demarcated as hotspots on Tuesday. 18 places were delisted.
