Paris: The theme of World Radio Day- held on February 13 annually- this year is "Radio and Trust". UNESCO invites global radio stations to commemorate the 11th edition of the event and more than a century old legacy, NDTV reports.

World Radio Day was first held by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2011. It was later adopted by the United Nations National Assembly as an international day in 2012.

There are three sub-themes for the day this year. The first one is 'Trust in Journalism'. Journalism should be about reporting accurate, well researched and verified information regarding different sections of society. Radio journalists must be able to produce high-quality content.

The second sub-theme is "Trust and Accessibility". It is to bring the need for accessibility news and information about different societies to public attention. Everyone in the globe must have access to the radio.

The third sub-theme is "Trust and viability of radio stations". This says that the radio stations ensure competitiveness and must be able to engage a broad audience.

Radio has decades of legacy since it was one of the oldest, most popular and most widely consumed news media. It has donned a pivotal role in information proliferation during natural disasters. The main aim behind "World Radio Day" was to give a chance for people from different backgrounds, cultures and experiences to raise their concerns and place their opinions.

Radio had achieved a lot in India, reaching the masses in every nuke and corner of the country. They're still people who trust only radio as well as depend only on it for news and entertainment.
