Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar invited criticism by linking the state’s population growth to women’s lack of education and men’s carelessness.

The Janata Dal-United (JDU) was addressing a meeting in Vaishali when he said if women were to study, the fertility rate would drop.

The opposition BJP called out the Chief Minister’s remarks saying that with his indecent language the chief minister tarnished the state's image.

"If women study, then the fertility rate will drop. This is the reality. Nowadays, women are not educated. A man does not keep in mind that he does not have to give birth every day," CM Nitish Kumar reportedly said.

Nitish Kumar was speaking at the ongoing Samadhan Yatra when he said education would help women know better how to protect themselves from getting pregnant.

He went on said men too who were not properly educated unable to stop the population growth in the state.

Samrat Chaudhary, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council, alleged that the chief minister used indecent and derogatory language in public.
