Kanpur: A potential disaster was averted in Uttar Pradesh following the loco pilot’s quick response when the train hit with a LPG cylinder placed on the tracks.

The incident revealed a conspiracy to derail the Prayagraj-Bhiwani Kalindi Express, NDTV reported citing police.

The train collided with the LPG cylinder at a crossing in Kanpur's Muderi village Sunday morning.

The loco pilot immediately applied emergency brakes averting a major accident.

It is reported that the incident occurred around 8.20 am when the Kalindi Express was heading towards Bhiwani in Haryana.

When the train was passing through Shivrajpur, the loco pilot noticed an LPG cylinder on the tracks.

Though the pilot slammed brakes, the train hit the cylinder throwing it off the tracks from the impact.

The train remained there for about 20 minutes just as the pilot informed the authorities about the incident. No passengers were harmed in the incident.

Following the incident the RPF and Uttar Pradesh Police recovered the damaged LPG cylinder, bottle filled with petrol, matchboxes alongside other suspicious including a bag. The bottle seemed to be what is called a ‘petrol bomb’.

Kanpur Commissioner of Police Harish Chandra said that security measures have been intensified on critical railway routes and a forensic investigation is underway.

The RPF and the UP Police Dog Squad are searching the area for more details.

Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed along the Anwarganj-Kasganj railway route.
