Benglaluru: Bengaluru police have arrested 34-year-old techie Atul Subhash’s wife Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha and her brother Anurag days after Subhash died by suicide accusing them of harassment and extortion, NDTV reported.

While Nikita was arrested in Gurugram, other two Singhanias were taken into custody from Allahabad with her uncle Sushil remaining at large.

The Singhanias, who were asked by Bengaluru police to appear within three days, have been produced in court and remanded to judicial custody.

The family has been facing massive outrage after Subhash raised allegations against them prior to his death in a 24-page suicide note and an 80-minute video.

Subhash, originally from Bihar's Samastipur, was found dead at his Bengaluru flat on Monday.

The note found at his home has every page started with ‘justice is due’.

Subhash said that he met Nikita on a matchmaking website and married in 2019 and the couple had a son the following year.

He alleged that Nikita and her family demanded him of huge amounts of money to set up businesses, which he refused leading to arguments and eventually she left home in 2021 with her son.

In the following year she filed cases against him and his family members under serious charges of cruelty against a woman, dowry harassment and even murder.

They claimed that harassment by Atul and his family members for dowry led to the death of Nikita's father; however, this case was, later withdrawn.

Subhash claimed that Nikita and her family members filed cases to harass him and extort money as alimony and maintenance.

Though court directed him to pay ₹ 80,000 monthly as maintenance to Nikita and his son, she wanted more money.

Pointing to Judicial system, Subhash wrote in the note: ‘The more I work hard and become better at my work, the more I and my family will be harassed and extorted and the whole legal system will encourage and help my harassers... Now, with me gone, there won't be any money and there won't be any reason to harass my old parents and my brother. I may have destroyed my body but it has saved everything I believe in.’

Following Subhash’s death his brother Bikas Kumar filed an abetment to suicide case against Nikita and her family members including uncle Sushil Singhania.

Subhash's death has led to outrage against alleged misuse of the Dowry Prohibition Act and the law to protect women from cruelty by her husband his relatives.
