New Delhi: The Jammu & Kashmir administration will not get discouraged by the targeted killings by terrorists in the Union Territory, NDTV reports citing an official source.

The source told NDTV that the targeted killings prove that those militants are desperate, but the administration "will take care" of the situation. The current series of killings will stop soon, the source promised, saying that there was a similar spell in October last year, which the authorities curtailed.

The statement offered some insight into the government's plan to tackle the spate of attacks in the union territory that have targeted mostly non-locals and Kashmiri Pandits.

NDTV reports that the recent attacks targeted mostly non-locals and Kashmiri Pandits. The source said that all, including tourists and even Muslims, are at threat.

He said that the lifting of lockdowns, demanded by Kashmiri Pandits, as well as letting them move out of Kashmir, could not be approved. The government cannot allow any ethnic cleansing but believe in a multicultural society. He promised that the government would move the Pandits to safer locations.

Further, these killings would affect the election processes, he said, adding that there is a democratic system.

He said that there is no evidence of the involvement of the Taliban in these attacks, nor they were Jihad but militants backed by Pakistan, who attempt to create chaos in the area.

He stated indirectly that local parties are weaving a narrative that only they can run the state and "get back to the old system".

The official's statement comes a day after a bank manager of Hindu faith and a labourer was shot dead in Kashmir, while the fresh wave of targeted killings in the region drives out many from the Union Territory, ruled by the BJP led Centre.
