Tamil Nadu bus conductor refuses burqa-clad woman entry, faces license cancellation
cancel

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has cancelled the license of a private bus operator and its conductor after the latter was caught on camera refusing to allow a burqa-clad woman to board. The incident took place in Tiruchendur district and a video of the confrontation has since gone viral on social media.

The woman, who was travelling to Kayalpattinam in Thoothukudi district, attempted to board the bus when the conductor stopped her despite her holding a valid ticket. The situation escalated as the conductor allowed other passengers to board while ignoring her.

“Why are you not letting us board the bus?” the person recording the video can be heard asking. In response, the conductor claimed he had been instructed by the bus owner not to let them in and even shared the owner’s contact number.

Following the outrage triggered by the video, TNSTC cancelled the licenses of both the private travel company, VVS Tours & Travels, and the conductor.
