Hyderabad: Skyrocketing tomato prices have made the vegetable so precious that approximately 20 kg of tomatoes were allegedly stolen from a shop in Mahabubabad district, the police said on Thursday.

Tomatoes are being sold at Rs 100 to Rs 120 per kg in the retail market depending on the city.

The incident occurred in the Dornakal Mandal on Wednesday night, as stated by authorities.

The vegetable vendor reported that 20 kg of tomatoes, along with four other vegetables weighing approximately 35 kg, were taken from two boxes in his shop by unidentified individuals.

Following a complaint, a theft case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.

In addition to tomatoes, the prices of other vegetables are also rising in various states.
