text_fieldsJanjgir/Chhattisgarh: Son of BJP MLA in Chhattisgarh Narayan Chandel, got arrested in a case of rape after two months of being on the run, PTI reported citing state police.
The accused, Palash Chandel, was arrested by the police on Thursday and was released on a bail bond of Rs 25,000. Chhattisgarh High Court granted Palash anticipatory bail.
Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar Soni said that Palash was arrested by police in the Janjgir-Champa district.
Narayan Chandel is the MLA from the Janjgir Champa constituency.
The court granted anticipatory bail to Palash on April 4.
On January 19, a case was registered against Palash in the state capital of Raipur. This was after a woman teacher from a tribal community in Janjgir Champa district accused him of sexually exploiting her for several years by promising to marry her.
According to the woman, Palash had forced her to have an abortion. The woman had also approached the Chhattisgarh State Women's Commission and Chhattisgarh State Scheduled Tribes Commission.
The case charged Palash with Indian Penal Code sections 376(2)(n) (committing rape repeatedly on the same woman) and 313 (causing miscarriage without woman's consent) besides the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The case was later transferred to Janjgir Champa police.
