Rajasthan government launches Rs 200 crore subsidy scheme to promote electric vehicles
text_fieldsIn a significant move to boost electric mobility, the Rajasthan government has introduced a Rs 200 crore e-vehicle promotion fund under its Electric Vehicle Policy-2022.
The initiative aims to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) by offering State GST reimbursements and one-time grants to eligible buyers.
Aligned with the FAME-2 (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) guidelines, the subsidy applies to EVs purchased on or after September 1, 2022, and registered within Rajasthan. However, only vehicles bought within the state will qualify for the benefits.
According to Joint Transport Commissioner Jagdish Prasad Bairwa, EV manufacturers registered under FAME-2 must first enroll on the state's transport department portal to be eligible. They are required to submit key details about their EV models, including battery specifications, in compliance with FAME-2 norms.
Once verified, buyers can apply for subsidies through the Vahan portal. The process involves entering the last five digits of the vehicle registration and chassis number, verifying identity via OTP authentication, and uploading bank details along with supporting documents such as a passbook front page or a cancelled cheque.
Following approval, the subsidy amount will be directly transferred to the buyer’s bank account. The government has set a cap on the number of vehicles eligible per category, so manufacturers, dealers, and buyers are encouraged to apply early to avail of the benefits.
This initiative is expected to accelerate EV adoption in Rajasthan, making sustainable transportation more accessible and affordable for residents.
