Parliament enters third week as govt pushes key Bills amid Opposition protests

New Delhi: Parliament is set to begin its third week of the Monsoon Session on Monday, with the Centre preparing to push through a fresh set of Bills even as Opposition protests are expected to continue over several contentious issues.
The session has already seen repeated disruptions, with Opposition parties targeting the government over exam paper leaks, police action against protesters at Jantar Mantar and the Ram Mandir donation theft case.
In the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh is scheduled to introduce the Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2026, while Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to table the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026 for consideration.
In the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi is slated to introduce the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026 for consideration and passage.
The Opposition is also likely to keep up pressure for a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah on police action against the Jantar Mantar protesters, including allegations over the use of pellet guns.
Despite the turbulence, Parliament has already cleared two major pieces of legislation in the Monsoon Session — the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.
With both sides sticking to their positions, the third week is expected to see more heated exchanges alongside efforts to advance the government’s legislative agenda.
