In an incident that police believe may be linked to excessive online gaming, three minor sisters died after jumping from the ninth floor of their residential building in Ghaziabad early on Wednesday

Police officials said the sisters, aged 12, 14 and 16, had a disagreement at home over their increasing dependence on a task-based online game. According to the police, local residents heard a loud sound around 2 am and later found the girls lying near the building, after which the authorities were informed.

The siblings were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead. Assistant Commissioner of Police Atul Kumar Singh of Shalimar Garden said the police received information about the incident at around 2.15 am and immediately sent a team to the location to begin inquiries.

Singh said the girls were taken by ambulance to the 50-bed hospital in Loni, where medical staff confirmed their deaths, and that further legal procedures were underway, Indian Express reported.

A senior police officer said the sisters’ engagement with online games had reportedly increased over the past few years and that they had also started missing school frequently. The officer added that investigators were examining their mobile phones and speaking to family members to piece together the sequence of events, noting that no suicide note had been found so far.

The police said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination as part of the investigation.
