Over 1000 flights cancelled in Chennai following heavy rains

Over a thousand flights connecting the South Indian city have been cancelled due to the nature’s fury, NDTV reported.
The airline company IndiGo reported cancelling of 550 flights after the airport closed operations yesterday. Airlines Vistara cancelled 10 flights from the city.
Authorities shut Chennai airport after flood water entered the airport yesterday.
The operation resumed in the morning as the flood water began to recede.
IndiGo offered a waiver to the affected flyers on cancellation and rescheduling of the fights, according to NDTV.
IndiGo has parked 15 flights that were grounded yesterday following bad weather.
Vistara reportedly said that its team made efforts to ‘minimize inconvenience’ to its customers.
‘The team made all efforts to minimize inconvenience to customers including proactively cancelling select flights and has been in constant touch with the impacted customers to offer regular updates and various alternatives such as rescheduling or refunds, as applicable,’ said a Vistara spokesperson.
Cyclone Michaung caused heavy rains in Chennai since Sunday night, nearly sinking the city.
City officials are now struggling to drain the flood waters and remove inundations in several places.
