Number of young MLAs sees dip in Bihar
text_fieldsA study on the the profile of Bihar's Legislative Assembly released on November 11 following the Assembly elections has shown a decline in the number of young MLAs.The study by PRS legislative says that the percentage of women in the Assembly saw a slight change, and there was a small shift in the education profile.
The age profile of Bihar Legislative assembly showed a drop in MLAs aged 25-40 from 16% to 14%. Further, it showed a drop in the number of MLAs aged 41-55 from 53% to 48%.
The number of MLAs aged 56-70, however, has seen an increase from 27% to 33% and above 70 category has seen a small rise from 4% to 5% according to the study
The gender profile of Bihar Legislative Assembly showed no substantial change, but has reduced slightly from 13% to 11%. In 2015, there were 28 women in an Assembly on 215 and in 2020 there are 26 women in an Assembly of 2017
The education profile has remained nearly the same. The percentage of those with a Higher Secondary education, as well as those with a Bachelor's degree has held steady at 38% and 40% respectively. There has been a dip in Post Graduates from 15% to 13%. There has also been an increase in those with a Doctorate from 7% to 9%.
The Education profile of the 16th and 17th Vidhan Sabha are similar. In 2020, 62% of the MLAs have at least a Bachelor's degree, same as 2015. The number of MLAs with doctorates has increased from 7% to 9%. pic.twitter.com/O32H824PsW
