'No place for Muslims': woman tells family looking for flat in T’gana

Hyderabad: A Muslim family in Telangana's Warangal has alleged that they were denied the opportunity to purchase an apartment after a woman claiming to be a government employee told them there was no place for Muslims in the housing society, Siasat reported.

The allegation surfaced after a video of the confrontation circulated on social media on Thursday. The man in the video, identified as Nadeem, said he and his parents had visited the apartment after learning that a flat was available for sale and that the owner had agreed to sell it to them.

According to Nadeem, the woman confronted the family near the lift, questioned their presence and allegedly declared that Muslims would not be allowed to buy flats in the apartment complex. He further alleged that she insisted the sale could proceed only with her approval despite the owner's willingness to sell.

Nadeem, who identifies himself as an employee of the Telangana Revenue Department, said the woman became silent after he began recording the interaction. He also claimed the apartment watchman told him that all flats in the complex were owned by teachers who had collectively decided not to sell properties to Muslims.

Describing the incident as the first instance of such overt discrimination he had faced while searching for a home in Warangal, Nadeem criticised the alleged exclusion of Muslims from residential spaces and expressed concern over the social impact of such attitudes.

The Warangal Commissioner of Police's office said it was not aware of the incident and that the video would be examined by the cybercrime police.
