No money for ambulance: family carries dead body on SUV roof
text_fieldsDehradun: A family in Pithoragarh's Berinag was forced to carry their son’s dead on the roof of an SUV as they were unable to pay the charges of an ambulance, Asian News International reported.
The chief medical officer (CMO) said in a statement that the youth allegedly ended his life in Halduchaud, and the family did not have enough money to take their son’s body to Pithoragrah, where they live. When the ambulance drivers demanded 10 to 12 thousand rupees, the family called an SUV driver from their village, tied the deceased’s body to the roof of the SUV and took it to Pithoragarh.
The statement said that the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has taken cognizance of the incident and ordered the Health Secretary, Dr R Rajesh Kumar, to conduct a detailed investigation of the entire incident. Dhami expressed displeasure over the incident; the statement said and added that he has given strict instructions to the officials not to repeat such incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, Dr Kumar said that answers have been sought from the concerned officials regarding the entire incident, and strict action will be taken against those involved after the investigation.
Also, officials said that efforts are being made to ensure that similar unfortunate incidents won’t repeat anywhere in the state.
