NEET leak: Speaker Birla turned off Rahuls mic, says Congress

New Delhi: Dramatic incidents took stage in the Lok Sabha on Friday, and Congress accused Speaker Om Birla of switching off Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi's mic while he was raising the issue of NEET paper leak in the House.

Congress took it to the X, sharing a video which showed Rahul Gandhi requesting the Speaker to turn his mic on. This was when Rahul demanded a debate on the NEET issue and a statement from the government.

However, responding to Rahul's request, Speaker Birla claimed that he switched off microphone MPs and that he had no such controls. But he added that the discussion should be at the President's address and other matters should not be recorded in the House.

Meanwhile, the Congress party posted on X that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is saying nothing about the NEET leak, while Rahul is raising the youth's concern at the House. However, some are hatching a conspiracy to suppress the voice of the youth by doing cheap acts like switching off the mic.

The NEET-UG exam 2024 and the controversies followed after their reported paper leaks in many places, there were nationwide protests from students.

When the House proceedings started, Congress MP KC Venugopal moved an adjournment motion to discuss the case of paper leaks, but the Speaker said that the House would discuss the Motion of Thanks to the President's address to the Parliament.

This led to a ruckus in the Lok Sabha House, and the Speaker adjourned the House till July 1. Government sources claimed that there was no such tradition of bringing an adjournment motion during the Motion of Thanks to the President's address, India Today reported. According to a source, the opposition was making an unnecessary demand, and the government was very ready to speak on the NEET issue.
