Nagpur: A case study published in the Journal of Forensic and Legal Medicine revealed the rare incident of a 41-year-old man’s death in Nagpur after taking two Viagra pills over alcohol.

The doctors revealed in their study that man who had met up a female friend at a hotel took two 50mg tablets of sildenafil, erectile dysfunction medication, news.au.com reported.

The man, whose identity is not known, had no ‘significant’ medical or surgical history, was consuming alcohol when he took the pills that are sold under the brand name ‘Viagra’.

When the man started vomiting the following morning, his female friend pressed him to seek medical help which he refused claiming that he had similar symptoms previously too.

However, he was rushed to a hospital after his condition was worsened but was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

The study finds that man died of a cerebrovascular haemorrhage that happens when oxygen delivery to brain is reduced.

"A 41-year-old male with no significant past medical and surgical history was staying at a hotel room with a female friend; he had consumed 2 tablets of sildenafil (50 mg each) and alcohol at night. The next morning, he developed uneasiness following which he was taken to the Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival," the study reportedly read.

After finding 300g mass of clotted blood during postmortem, doctors concluded that alcohol and medication alongside his pre-existing high-blood pressure caused his death.

The study, according to its authors, was published to enhance awareness about risks of taking medication for erectile dysfunction medication without medical advice.
