Chandigarh: The Haryana government suspended mobile internet and SMS services in its Nuh district, where two Muslim men from Rajasthan were burnt inside a car.

The suspension order was issued after fears of communal tension and disturbance to peace after a call for more protests against the abduction and murder of the men, allegedly by cow vigilantes, PTI reported.

The service restrictions will be from February 26 to 28, as per the order, which cited 'potential cause for communal tension and disturbance of public peace.' The order intends to restrict disinformation spread through social media platforms online.

"Haryana Government has issued a temporary suspension of mobile internet services (2G/3G/4G/CDMA/GPRS), all SMS services including bulk SMS and excluding banking and mobile recharge, and all dongle services, etc. provided on mobile networks except the voice calls in the territorial jurisdiction of district Nuh with immediate effect," the order said.

PTI was informed that security in the district had been strengthened after hundreds crowded at the Nuh-Alwar highway in Firozpur Jhirka, blocking it on Friday. The protesters demanded the arrest of the accused in the murder case.

The Friday protests jammed traffic on the Nuh-Alwar highway for an hour, and police, on Saturday, charged more than 500 people for blocking it.

In the case of Nasir and Junaid, allegedly abducted and murdered by cow vigilantes, the Rajasthan police said that they have strong evidence against the eight accused named in the FIR. They are Anil and Srikant from Nuh, Kalu from Kaithal, Kishore and Shashikant from Karnal, Monu and Gogi from Bhiwani, and Vikas from Jind.

But officials stated that the role of Monu Manesar, a Bajrang Dal member, is still being investigated. On Wednesday, arrested accused Rinku Saini was produced before a court that sent him to police remand till February 27.

Nasir and Junaid, both residents of Ghatmeeka village in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan, were allegedly abducted by cow vigilantes on February 15, and their bodies were found in a charred car in Loharu in Haryana's Bhiwani the next day.
