New Delhi: The Ministry of Culture on Thursday came up with new sets of relaxations to the Unlock 5.0. The guidelines include Standard Operating Procedures(SOPs) for the reopening of museums, art galleries, and exhibitions under it, which have been closed since March 17th, on preventive measures to contain the spread of Covid 19. The Ministry said in a statement that other similar institutions can also be reopened as per convenience and in tune with the relevant state, city, or local laws, rules and regulations or Unlock guidelines in force. The Ministry also added that both the visitors and managements of museums, art galleries, and exhibitions irrespective of temporary and permanent, should follow the guidelines that contain SOPs.

The Ministry also clarified that the museums and art galleries inside the containment zones should not be reopened. The state/UT governments consider proposing additional measures as per their field assessment. "The National Directives for Covid 19 Management and the relevant guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, State/UT Governments, etc. shall be strictly compiled with during all activities and operations. These guidelines shall come into effect immediately, and shall continue to be in effect until further orders," said the Ministry.

The pandemic has hit the museums and art sectors across the world. By resuming operations of museums and art galleries during the festive season would allow the public to once again enjoy exploring rich cultural heritage of India. But comprehensive guidelines must be laid down to prevent transmission of Covid 19 and ensure the safety of the visitors and staff.
