Thiruvananthapuram: A programme by the Kerala government is set to provide prisoners in the state training in spinning, weaving, and similar traditional skills.

The state prisons, Correctional Services Department, and the Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board on Wednesday signed an MoU to hone the employability skills of the inmates and generate income in the correctional process. A statement from the Chief Minister's office said jail DGP Balram Kumar Upadhyay and Khadi Board Secretary K A Ratheesh exchanged the MoU in the presence of CM Pinarayi Vijayan.

The programme is also providing training in the production of ready-made garments, apiculture, and the manufacturing of other rural industrial products through the board. The products will be sold through Board outlets.
