Saiha district in southern Mizoram, on the Myanmar border, has been cleared of explosives and warlike supplies, officials announced on Saturday.

According to defense and police sources, the Assam Rifles troopers and police cooperated on Friday evening to recover the bodies from an abandoned location near Mawhre village, Saiha district.

A total of 81 kg of liquid explosives, 94 kg of Belox granular explosives, 395 kg of Gelatin sticks, 356 rounds of 12-gauge, and a cache of 70 mm cartridges, one Improvised Explosive Device, Lead-acid batteries, two detonators, and other stores, including foreign-origin communication equipment were recovered.

Police have seized the recovered explosives and other stores for further legal proceedings. No one has yet been arrested.

A defense statement stated that the smuggling of explosives, weapons, and war-like stores is a major concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar border.

Security forces are determined to defeat any nefarious designs of the insurgents by ensuring peace and harmony in the region, the statement said.

It's suspected that the explosives were brought into the country from Myanmar, which shares 510 km of unfenced border with Mizoram and 318 km with Bangladesh.
