Haveri/ Karnataka: Police arrested twenty people in Haveri district of the state in connection with pelting stones at a mosque during a procession organised by Hindu outfits and Kuruba community organisations on Tuesday.

The incident was reported during a bike rally conducted by around 200 people in Rattihalli taluk carrying a statue of revolutionary Sangolli Rayanna, who fought the British in the 19th century, The News Minute reported.

Police said that five people sustained injuries after a few individuals hurled stones at Muslim houses and mosque when the procession passed through a Muslim locality.

Shivakumar Gunare, Haveri Superintendent of Police, reportedly, said the situation was under control and security had been beefed up in the area.

"A few miscreants resorted to stone-pelting when the procession came close to a mosque, 8-10 houses, and two vehicles were damaged," the official reportedly said.

Gunare also said that some members of Muslim community had disrupted a similar rally on March 9.
