New Delhi: On Sunday, a passenger who was flying from Nagpur to Mumbai aboard an IndiGo Airlines flight allegedly attempted to open an emergency exit cover while the flight was in midair and was about to land, NDTV reported citing ANI.

The cabin crew alerted the captain and the passenger was “appropriately cautioned”, ANI reported.

IndiGo said that there was no compromise on the safety of the operation of the flight. But an FIR has been filed against the passenger for unauthorized tampering with the emergency exit.

The new incident gets reported after another IndiGo flight experienced a similar incident on December 10 last. There were no untoward incidents at that time since the Chennai-Tiruchirappalli fight had taken off.

Later, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia identified the said passenger as Tejasvi Surya. The minister said that the traveller opened the door “by mistake” and apologized for the same. It happened when Surya “rested his hands on the door”, and it unlocked. The flight got delayed for two hours before reaching its destination.

In recent months there have been multiple incidents of problems with the airline sector after several mechanical failures and unruly behaviours of passengers. Two Air India flights face scrutiny over incidents of drunk passengers.

A New York flight’s crew were de-rostered after a drunk passenger urinated on an elderly woman. In another incident, a drunk passenger urinated on a vacant seat and a woman’s blanket. In one more incident, an inebriated passenger was caught smoking inside the lavatory.
