Education Minister likely to hold review meeting on conducting NEET, JEE-Mains
cancel

Following the cancellation of class 12 board exams, the Ministry of Education will now decide if NEET and remaining editions of JEE-Mains can be conducted in August based on its review of the current situation. While the first and second phases of JEE-Mains were conducted in February and March, respectively, the remaining two phases were postponed because of the rise of COVID-19 cases.

"A review meeting is likely to be conducted soon to decide on schedule of the pending editions of JEE-Mains and whether NEET-UG can be conducted on August 1," a source said.

JEE-Advanced for admissions to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and National Institute of Technology (NIT), scheduled to be conducted on July 3, was postponed last week. Meanwhile, the registration for NEET-UG, which was to start from May 1, has been kept on hold.

After the CBSE announces alternative assessment criteria for class 12 boards, a decision shall be made on conducting the Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET).

The government on Tuesday decided to cancel Class 12 board exams after a high-level meeting chaired by PM Modi. However, the alternative assessment criteria are yet to be finalized. If students wish to take the exams, the option would be provided by the CBSE as and when the situation improves.
