Gurugram: A woman has accused an Uber driver of threatening and assaulting her after a dispute over the fare for a journey from Delhi airport to Gurugram, prompting the company to remove the driver’s access to its platform.

Software engineer Tanisha Sharma shared her account on X, saying she booked the cab at around 4.45 a.m. after arriving at the airport. The Uber app displayed a fare of approximately Rs 625 for the trip.

However, after reaching her destination, the driver allegedly demanded Rs 1,479, citing a fare estimate from another ride-hailing platform, Rapido. Sharma said she paid the amount displayed on Uber but the driver refused to release her luggage and allegedly held her arm when she tried to retrieve it.

She further alleged that the driver followed her to her residence, forced his way towards the entrance and threatened and abused her while attempting to climb the gate. Sharma also claimed she could not reach Uber’s safety support during the incident and urged the company to retain the trip and driver records.

Uber said the alleged conduct violated its community guidelines and confirmed that the driver had been removed from the app. The company also offered to assist law enforcement with information.

A senior police officer said authorities had taken note of the social media post and were attempting to contact Sharma. Police said no formal complaint had been received at the time, adding that further action would follow as per law.
