Jammu: Police arrested one person here for making inflammatory speech just as the curfew being clamped continued for the fifth day on Monday in Doda and Kishtwar towns.

Although heavy deployment continued in the two towns, there was no report of any untoward incident from anywhere.

Aadil Gafoor Ganai was arrested for delivering an inflammatory speech from the Markazi Jamia Masjid Bhaderwah on June 9 during a protest rally against the recent controversial remarks made by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

Groups of two communities have been accusing each other of stoking communal tensions after some miscreants posted purported announcements from a local mosque.

Authorities have decided to continue curfew restrictions imposed under Section 144 of the CrPc in the two towns to maintain law and order.

Kashmir has been witnessing a spate of violence including 16 targeted killing since January this year.

Earlier Indian express quoted J&K Police DGP Dilbag Singh as saying those targeting minorities, civilians and people in government are "only propagating fear, since local residents have stopped responding to their diktat".

Targeted killing by terrorists started in February 2021 when the son of the proprietor of a restaurant was shot dead inside the restaurant.
