New Delhi: Randeep Surjewala the spokesperson for Congress part said that Sonia Gandhi, 75, on Sunday was taken to the emergency department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi "owing to Covid related issues". Sources in the hospital say that her condition is stable.

"Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Ganga Ram Hospital today owing to Covid related issues. She is stable and will be kept at the hospital for observation. We thank all the Congress men & women as also all well-wishers for their concern and good wishes," tweeted Surjewala.

Ten days ago, Gandhi was tested positive for the Covid-19 and mild symptoms like fever etc, according to the spokesperson.

Doctors treating her said that was in a stable condition. She was transferred to a private room for 'observation' after being treated for nose bleed.'

The Congress president was accompanied by her daughter Priyanka Gandhi to the hospital. The emergency rooms in the hospital were warded off minutes after she was admitted. Her son Rahul Gandhi was also present, according to the Indian Express.

She has a history of asthma and has previously had a chest infection. In February 2020 she was hospitalized for stomach infection and then later in July for routine tests.

The Congress president is usually treated at the hospital under chest physician Dr Arup Basu.
