Jammu: The Border Security Force (BSF) of India opened fire at a suspected Pakistani drone spotted along the International Border (IB) on Saturday. Authorities have informed that an extensive search operation has been commenced in order to find if any weapons or narcotics were moved into Indian territory by the drone, PTI reported.

According to BSF, the drone entered the general area of Arnia around 4:10 am, and the alert troops fired at the object. "The humming sound of a suspected drone was heard in the morning at 4:10 am by alert troops of the BSF in the general area of Arnia. The troops fired towards the direction of the sound," the BSF spokesperson said. It was informed that the BSF fired 18 rounds within 10 minutes after the drone's movement was noticed.

He added that the area was cordoned off cooperating with police, and a search operation was going on.

Ten days ago, police recovered a huge consignment of arms and ammunition dropped by the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and partner The Resistance Front, by a drone in the same region, in the RS Pura sector. The seized consignment included a pistol with two magazines and 70 rounds, three detonators, three remote-controlled IEDs, three bottles of explosives, one bundle of cortex wire, two-timer IEDs and six grenades.

In the past year, security forces have shot down two drones in the Jammu region and seized what they carried. The payload included rifles, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), sticky bombs and narcotics.
