BJP leader Sushil Modi, ex Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, dies at 72
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Senior BJP leader Sushil Modi who was battling cancer, died at Delhi's All-India Institute of Medical Sciences Monday evening. He was 72 years old.
Sushil Modi, the BJP's best-known face in Bihar, chose not to contest the ongoing Lok Sabha elections citing his ill health, NDTV reported.
In a post on X on April 3, Modi said: ‘I have been battling cancer for the last 6 months. Now I feel that the time has come to tell people. I will not be able to do anything in the Lok Sabha elections. I have told everything to the PM. Always grateful and always dedicated to the country, Bihar and the party.’
Senior BJP leader Sushil Modi, who served as the Deputy of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in two stints, had been a highly influential BJP leader in the state.

Shah said that Bihar lost a great pioneer of politics forever, adding that Susheel Modi adorned many important positions in the organization and government, dedicating his life to the interests of the poor and the backward.
BJP chief JP Nadda said: ‘Sushil Modi ji's entire life was dedicated to Bihar. Sushil Modi ji's efforts have been very helpful in bringing Bihar out of jungle raj and putting it on the path of development. His absence is an irreparable loss for countless workers.’
