Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Ministry of AYUSH signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 7 to introduce the concept of Ayurveda and allied disciplines in veterinary sciences.

The cooperation would help in developing a regulatory mechanism for the use of Ayurveda in the veterinary sector for the benefit of animal health, livestock owners' community and the society at large, it said.

Further, the initiative aims at building capacity in related areas by training, exploring marketing possibilities for herbal veterinary medicines on a sustainable basis and providing for services including cultivation, preservation and conservation of medicinal plants. Ministry of Fisheries, Animal husbandry and Dairying further added that cooperation would help develop herbal veterinary education programmes and create awareness among dairy and agro farmers about utilising herbal veterinary medicines and medicinal herb cultivation.
