Amit Shah orders study of protests since 1974 to stop future agitations by ‘vested interests’: report
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah sought the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D) to ‘analyse reasons, patterns and outcomes’ of all protests taken place post-independence in the country, The Indian Express reported.
Amit Shah reportedly wanted details of ‘financial aspects’, ‘behind-the-scene players’ and final outcomes of the protests, especially the ones that took place after 1974.
The union minister has directed BPR&D to evolve a standard operating procedure to prevent ‘mass agitations by vested interests’ happening in the future.
Shah sought the details while addressing the two-day ‘National Security Strategies Conference-2025’ organised by the Intelligence Bureau in July.
It is reported citing a senior government official that BPR&D was directed to formulate a SOP ‘based on the outcome of the study to prevent mass agitations by vested interests in the future’.
The BPR&D, which works under the Union home ministry, will set up a committee to ‘coordinate with state police departments for old case files, including reports of their Crime Investigation Departments’.
The Union Home Minister also asked the BPR&D to probe the “financial aspects” of protests by roping in agencies like the Enforcement Directorate, Financial Intelligence Unit-India and Central Board of Direct Taxes.
