Dindigul: In Tamil Nadu, police arrested a 22-year-old person for thievery, inspired by ‘Thala’ Ajith starrer “Thunivu”. The movie relates the story of a criminal mastermind who pulls off bank heists, Asian News International.

Police said that the accused was identified as Kaleel Rahman, a resident of Dindigul, who had taken a loan from a branch of the Indian Overseas Bank but couldn’t pay it back.

The accused entered the bank and tied the hands of three employees with plastic tags. He had chilli powder, pepper spray, a cutting blade and a knife with him. He sprayed the employees with chilli powder and forced them to show him where the cash was kept, threatening to injure them.

However, when the manager was about to punch in for work that day, one of the tied-up clerks warned him of the robber and the manager, with the help of the writer, detained the robber and locked him in a room before calling the cops.

Police registered a case under Sections 393 (attempt to commit robbery), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 397 (robbery or dacoity with intent to cause death or grievous injury), and 506 I (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police said that the accused would be produced before Judicial Magistrate I for remand.
