56 Pakistani nationals from minority communities get citizenship

Gandhinagar: Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi on Wednesday distributed Indian citizenship certificates to 56 minority citizens from Pakistan under the provisions of Citizenship (Amendment) Act, The Indian Express reported.
It is also reported citing an official release that a total of 1,223 such citizenship certificates have been issued between 2017 and 2024.
Addressing the event, Sanghavi reportedly said that the new citizens could make India their land of work, even though they were born in Pakistan, adding that ‘Many minority families who migrated from Pakistan have achieved progress in various fields and contributed to society’s development. Their children are excelling in higher education. The Central and state governments have worked together to provide a new identity to Hindu families migrating from Pakistan.’
Others participated in the event include MLAs Payal Kukrani, Amul Bhatt, Amit Shah, Dinesh Kushwaha, and Babusingh Jadav.
Some of the recipient of the citizenship expressed their gratitude to the government, while sharing their experiences.
