2 weeks after Journalist Soumya gets justice, her father dies

New Delhi: Two weeks after a court handed life imprisonment to the men who shot dead his daughter, TV journalist Soumya, MK Vishwanathan breathed his last on Saturday.
The 82-year-old spent one-and-a-half-decade fighting to bring to justice the carjackers who attacked Soumaya on September 30,2008 on south Delhi's Nelson Mandela Road.
That night Vishwanathan was waiting for his daughter to get home from work as he always did.
When he gave her a call at 3.15 am, there was no answer and again when he made the call a few minutes later, a cop answered it.
Soumya was driving alone from her Jhandewalan office a little after 3 am to her home in Delhi's Vasant Kunj.
On the way she overtook a car occupied by Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, Baljeet Malik, and Ajay Kumar.
The convicts tried to intercept her. But when Soumya did not stop, one of them pulled out a gun and fired at her in the head, killing her on the spot.
Her car crashed against a divider; but the killers fled the scene seeing the cops, an officer said.
On that fateful night onwards Vishwanathan, who was then 67, started a long drawn legal battle for next 14 years.
Finally, a court in October convicted Ravi Kapoor, Baljit Malik, Amit Shukla and Ajay Kumar and in November handed out life sentences.
