New Delhi: This time, 15 Muslim representatives will reach the Lok Sabha. One of the notables is Yusuf Pathan, a former cricketer who is a Trinamool representative from Berhampore in West Bengal, who has defeated Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary by a large margin. 78 Muslim candidates representing mainstream parties were in the fray this time. In 2019, 115 people contested, and 26 people won, which is a huge decrease.

This time, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi won with a majority of more than three lakh votes in Hyderabad, while another independent, Abdul Rashid Shaikh, won in Baramulla with a majority of more than two lakhs and Agha Syed Mehdi won with a majority of more than 1.88 lakhs in Srinagar. In Anant Nag Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference representative Mian Altaf won a majority of around three lakh votes. Independent candidate Muhammad Hanifa also won from Ladakh. In Uttar Pradesh's Rampur, Mohibullah was leading by over 88,000 votes and in Sambhal, Zia Ur Rahman was leading by over 135,000 votes. ET Muhammad Basheer, Abdussamad Samadani and Shafi Parampil won with a huge majority from Kerala. Congress fielded 19 Muslims nationwide. While nine of them were in the lead, none of the 11 people who were fielded by the CPM could win.

In West Bengal, 18 people represented various parties as Muslims. Six of them won. But in Bihar, only one out of nine won. The BSP, which fielded 34 Muslim candidates, witnessed none winning in Uttar Pradesh.
