I received rape, acid attack, and death threats amid ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy: Apoorva Mukhija
text_fieldsSocial media influencer Apoorva Mukhija has taken to Instagram to expose the alarming abuse she has received online, including rape, acid attack, and death threats.
Sharing screenshots of disturbing comments left on her photos and reels, Mukhija captioned the post, “and that’s not even 1%,” pointing to the overwhelming scale of the hate directed at her.
The threats come in the wake of the ongoing controversy surrounding the YouTube show India’s Got Latent, where several influencers, including Mukhija, were named in a case related to obscenity and vulgar content.
Earlier this year, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell recorded Mukhija’s statement following public backlash against a particular episode of the show featuring YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia.
During the episode, Allahbadia made inappropriate remarks regarding parents and sex, which drew widespread criticism. He later issued a public apology, admitting, “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny… I’m just here to say sorry.” He also acknowledged the need to be more mindful of his influence on younger audiences, emphasising his respect for family values.
Comedian Samay Raina, who hosts India’s Got Latent, also appeared before the Guwahati Crime Branch on April 6. The police had previously filed an FIR on February 10 against several prominent internet personalities, including Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Mukhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, and Samay Raina. They were accused of promoting obscene and sexually explicit content on the show.
The FIR, registered as Cyber PS Case No. 03/2025 by the Guwahati Crime Branch, invoked multiple legal provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the IT Act of 2000, the Cinematograph Act of 1952, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act of 1986.
All named individuals, including Mukhija and Chanchlani, have since appeared before the Guwahati Crime Branch to record their statements as part of the ongoing investigation.
